Our Top 5 Favorite Super Bowl Commercials

Our Top 5 Favorite Super Bowl Commercials

Being a video production company, it can be tough to take in a commercial like a true spectator. It’s second nature to think about the writing, casting, styling and editing choices that went into making what we’re looking at.  But, just like everyone else, everyone at Grey Sky Films likes to kick back on Super Bowl Sunday with some buffalo wings (or vegan buffalo-cauliflower bites) and see what big brands, and big budgets, can do!

While you won’t see a “puppymonkeybaby” below, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good Ad. I mean, we’re talking about it right now aren’t we?  There are lots of ways to judge an advertisement. Based on straight-up feedback from our own team, here are our Top 5 (Ok, it’s really 6) Favorite Super Bowl commercials:

1. AmazonEcho #BaldwinBowl Party

Featuring the combined forces of Alec Baldwin, Jason Schwartzman, Dan Marino and Missy Elliott, each with their own entertainment or football-related draw, this commercial is rife with celebrity presence, witty exchanges, jokes, a life-sized snack stadium all while prominently featuring the product.

2. T-mobile’s “Drop the Balls” and “Restricted Bling”

T-mobile had a couple of good commercials this year, first mocking the Verizon Ad that had many people perplexed, while giving Steve Harvey an opportunity for redemption from his Miss Universe blunder.

But this Ad, featuring Drake, is one of our favorites…because the struggle is real.

3. The Bud Light Party

Amy Schumer, Seth Rogan… Paul Rudd.  ‘Nuff said.

4. Heinz “Weiner Stampede”

We’ve got a lot of animal lovers here at Grey Sky Films, so of course a vision of wiener-dogs in hot dog costumes running through a field in slow-motion is going to reel us right in!

What’s even better? Heinz’ YouTube page mentions the addition of wiener-dogs to their Meet the Ketchups family, but also reminds us there are many more dogs of all shapes and sizes waiting for their own families, and to consider adopting today.

5. Avocados from Mexico’s “Avos In Space”

This Ad uses some pretty straightforward humor as future aliens take a look at remnants from planet Earth, including items that are outdated (denim cutoffs), obsolete (rubix cube), or horribly archaic (airplane seating!)  By comparison, the delicious Avocado remains desirable by all kinds of beings far far away and far far into the future.

In the aired version, the alien tour guide says something about feeding Scott Baio. I think it could’ve been funny for them to cut back to an alien feeding Scott Baio a chip with Guacamole on it, and Scott enjoying it.  Hey, that’s just me.
